Exhaust/DPF Technician - Entry Level

RENO, NV | FULL TIME OR PART TIME

JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW:


A DPF Cleaning Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, disassembly, cleaning, and testing of diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and other aftertreatment system components. The technician ensures compliance with environmental standards and supports the overall efficiency of the workshop..

SALARY: $15.00 - $18.00 Per Hour Depending on Experience.

​

SCHEDULE: 

 

  • Full Time: Monday - Friday

  • Part Time: TBD

  • Willingness to work weekends, overtime or on-call as needed.

LOCATION & TRAVEL:

​

  • Shop : Reno, NV

  • Travel : NOT LIMITED To Reno, Sparks, Truckee, Tahoe, Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and surrounding areas.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

​

  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify DPF and emissions system issues and measure filter airflow before and after cleaning.

  • Operate specialized thermal, pneumatic, or aqueous cleaning machines to effectively remove accumulated soot and ash from the DPF.

  • Conduct post-cleaning inspections and tests to ensure the filter meets manufacturer and emissions standards for proper airflow.

  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities performed on each filter or vehicle.

  • Assist with general shop duties, including equipment maintenance, organization, and cleaning.

  • Operate forklifts or overhead cranes to move filters and parts around the shop.

  • Communicate with customers, fleet managers, or service advisors to explain findings and recommended solutions.

PREFERRED SILLS:

 

  • Solid understanding of diesel engine systems, exhaust systems, and emissions control technology.

  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, computer software, and specialized DPF cleaning equipment.

  • Knowledge of federal and state emissions regulations.

  • Prior experience as a diesel mechanic, technician, or in a related field is often required or preferred.

  • Experience with heavy-duty vehicles, fleet equipment, or commercial trucks may be necessary depending on the employer.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning and inspection.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Good communication and customer service skills.

  • Physical stamina for lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.

  • A commitment to safety protocols and procedures.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Vocational training or relevant certifications in diesel technology are often preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

    While preforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Work in physically demanding indoor or outdoor environments during all seasons.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  

  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects and tools.

  • Reach with hands and arms.

  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or lay on back.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • ASE Diesel Certification or other relevant credentials.

  • Familiarity with DOT and OSHA regulations.​
